THE RECEIPTS
BEGIN.

Preseason confidence meets the scoreboard.
Everyone would like a word with the editor.

Newspaper engraving of a football buried in receipts on an editor's desk.
From the sports desk The paper keeps receipts. The scoreboard supplies them.

Two weeks into the season, every August opinion can now be held against its owner. The undefeated have declared themselves visionaries. The winless have discovered the phrase “long season.” Everyone else is one hamstring away from blaming the schedule.

The football shares the front page with Palm Springs. Chris's bachelor-party attendance has become a live futures market. Tyler responded to roster trouble by announcing that he simply does not trade. Herbeck says the threat of the mermaid punishment motivated his team.

And once again the League Weekly archive has proven that forgetting is for amateurs.

“Week 2 did not settle the league. It simply gave everyone better evidence for the arguments they were already making.”

The No-Trade Doctrine

An offer was made. A foreign policy was born.

Bryton sent Tyler a trade. Tyler answered with a sentence so absolute it became policy: “I don't trade.”

Open the file

The archive immediately produced August messages showing Tyler confidently defending his quarterback situation. The prosecution rests.

The Mermaid Threat Works

Fear-based player development. Early returns: promising.

Herbeck offered the most important sports-science conclusion of the week: threat of the mermaid outfit motivated his team.

Palm Springs Takes the Floor

Two foursomes. One unresolved diplomatic incident.

SilverRock is booked. The question is no longer where the league is playing golf. It is whether Chris can obtain diplomatic clearance to attend.

The short version.

Media deskMahomes propaganda allegations return

Eric declared that the “Mahomes Chiefs propaganda” was already going strong. Roy agreed. Herbeck escalated. The broadcast booth was soon under informal investigation.

Commissioner's deskWeston administration still boringly functional

The league remains operational, orderly and largely free of administrative problems. The Tennessee Duo continues to regard this stability as suspicious.

Injury deskThe entire sport appears questionable

By Sunday, the league had moved beyond individual injuries and begun asking whether every player in football was getting hurt. Tyler's quarterback situation naturally became public property.

A grievance, for the record
“I love scoring more points than
half the league and losing.”
